When is Pancake Day 2023?

Pancake day (also known as Shrove Tuesday) happens the day before Ash Wednesday (the start of lent), and 47 days prior to Easter, meaning it changes every year. This year, Pancake Day is on Tuesday 21st February 2023.

As Shrove Tuesday happens the day before Ash Wednesday, it is seen as the feast before the beginning of lent, the 6 week period leading up to Easter whereby Christians traditionally fast. But why Pancakes, you ask? It’s essentially to clean out the cupboard of essentials, like eggs, milk and sugar to stop any temptations during fasting. All in all, it’s just like eating all the chocolate in the house before going on a diet.
